Why we love Portugal and particularly the Algarve
The Portuguese are a friendly bunch, the weather is great, the beaches are spectacular, the food is delicious, its great value and most importantly it is only a short flight from all major airports in Ireland and the UK
With over 300 days of sunshine the Algarve offers holidaymakers the perfect climate, the winter period is ideal for golf and long stay holidays, in springtime temperatures can reach over 20 degrees and summertime temperatures can reach a sizzling 35 degrees, September- October is the ideal time to visit the Algarve and sets you nicely for the winter months at home.
Beaches and Sea
The beaches on the Algarve are possibly the best in Europe, long white sandy beaches mixed with small almost private coves, take a visit to the Atlantic coast and you will be taken back by the beautiful, breath-taking and stunning white sandy beaches. The crystal blue waters of the Algarve and the selection of beaches along its coastline makes it a clear favourite with all holidaymakers.
Each resort along the Algarve offers something different, from the lively resorts of Albufeira, Praia da Rocha and Vilamoura to Lagos the old capital of the Algarve with all its old charm, the ever-popular resorts of Alvor and Carvoiero and of course the sophisticated resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, each area offers holidaymakers an excellent choice of entertainment both day and night.
My favourite subject, the Algarve offers a great selection of local dishes however it is renowned for its fresh fish, try some sardines, clams, cod, prawns, squid, sea bream, swordfish or many more of the freshly caught fish all these choices make the Algarve the ideal area and holiday destination for those looking for fine cuisine. Try the black pork from the black pigs raised in the area of Alentejo, not to be missed, take a visit to Guia near Albufeira and you will find the best choice of Chicken “PIRI PIRI “restaurants on the Algarve and finally what makes the ideal accompaniment to a morning coffee freshly baked “Pastel da Nata”(custard tarts) amazing !!!
Golf, cycling, walking and all kinds of water sports the Algarve has it all, from east to west you have a great choice of golfing delights which will suit all budgets and standards, the Algarve is now one of the leading golf destinations in Europe, as with all sun destinations cycling has come increasingly popular and the Algarve offers a coastline is deal for the sport, try out the choice of sailing, kayaking and all on your doorstep
