We are here to help you find beautiful Villas in Carvoeiro, Caroveiro is an Algarve fishing village turned tourist hot spot located five kilometers south of Lagoa. Built into steep red sea cliffs, the once-attractive village has mushroomed since the 1960s to accommodate (mainly in self-catering apartment blocks) the hordes of tourists who come every Summer to soak up the sun and escape the more hectic pace of towns such as Lagoa, Albufeira and Portimao.

Backed by hills, Carvoeiro centres around a picturesque cove with a sandy and sheltered beach, although it does get very busy in high season. Better and quieter beaches can be found close by at Praia do Centianes and Benagil. The village (technically a town since 2001) was formerly known as Praia do Carvoeiro.

The name is thought to derive from ‘Caboiere’, the old word for an Islamic-Medieval hamlet of fishermen. Carvoeiro has a colourful history of pirates and naval attacks, stretching back to Roman times. The most famous battle took place in 1544 between a fleet of Portuguese ships and the notorious Turkish pirate Xarramet.

To the west of the town is an old ruined fort, which was built in 1670 as part of the Algarve’s coastal defences. Very little of the fort survives although the site is also home to the shrine of Nossa Senhora, a chapel overlooking the sea which is said to pre-date the fort.

One kilometer east of the beach are the impressive rock formations of Algar Seco. Steps cut into the dusty cliff lead down to a series of dramatic overhangs above blow holes and grottoes.

he fishermen of Carvoeiro still land their catch on the town beach, but today the locals depend more on tourism for survival than they do on the daily tuna catch. It is a relaxed and friendly little town, great for families, yet with enough to do to keep everyone happy. Most villas in Carvoeiro can be found around a 45 minutes’ drive from Faro Airport, about halfway between Albufeira and Portimão. The town has its own lovely beach, but other nearby beaches such as Centianes and Vale do Covo are perfect for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling.

The Algarve is famous for its wonderful climate and sandy beaches. The cliff tops around Carvoeiro offer plenty of scope for walking and also provide some great views. From your villa in Carvoeiro you have quite a choice of seashores! All along this coast the sea has carved endless, intriguing little bays, caves, grottoes and coves into the cliffs, creating perfect, sheltered sandy beaches for your enjoyment. To get to these stretches of sand you sometimes have to negotiate some steep steps but the effort is worth it.

Carvoeiro beach is a sandy bay sheltered by dramatic cliffs. It is a favourite with families because it is so accessible from your villa, you just walk directly onto the sand from the town square. It is great for younger children as it is very safe, with calm clean water and an eagle eyed lifeguard on duty in the summer. It’s a real working beach with fishing boats, nets and baskets.
